Latest developments in the US elections and the 2024 scene

US

On November 6, the United States of America witnessed the election of the (45) the president in its history, as part of a democratic demonstration that the entire world is watching, not just the American people. The process of electing the US president takes place through several stages that many do not know about within an electoral system that is unique in its kind, and even one of the most complex electoral systems in the world despite its apparent ease.

Rules for electing the president in the United States of America: It is required that whoever runs for the position of President of the United States be born in the United States of America, be at least 35 years old, and have resided in the United States of America for at least 14 years. The same conditions are also required for whoever runs for the position of Vice President, in addition to the condition that the Vice President may not be from the same state as the President, according to the Twelfth Amendment to the US Constitution.

The US President and his Vice President are elected every four years. Contrary to popular belief, American voters do not directly elect their president. Rather, elections are decided by the Electoral College, which consists of 538 delegates. This number is equivalent to the number of members of the US Congress in the House of Representatives and the Senate, in addition to three members from the District of Columbia, which contains the capital, Washington, although it does not have any electoral representation in Congress. Each US state within this electoral college has a certain number

Legal challenges: Some legal amendments have led to legal challenges, as some laws have been challenged in federal and local courts, leading to changes or delays in their implementation.

Trump and the US Presidency War

Trump is the first president in American history to be impeached twice, and the first president to run again after impeachment. Trump was first impeached by the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives in December 2019 on charges of obstruction of Congress over his attempts to coerce Ukraine into providing damaging information about Joe Biden and misleading information regarding Russian interference in the 2016 United States election by withholding information on military aid. Trump was impeached again by the House of Representatives on January 13, 2021,

on a charge of “incitement of insurrection” over his role in the January 6 attack on the United States Capitol. Since the Senate acquitted Trump on both charges, he is not barred from seeking reelection to the presidency in 2024. The Supreme Court ruled in 2019 that Trump is ineligible to hold office under Article 3 of Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, and his role in the January 6 attack on the Capitol, and the court attempted to disqualify him from appearing on the ballot. But these attempts were unsuccessful, and on March 4, 2024, United States Supreme Court ruled unanimously that states could not determine their eligibility for national elections under Article III.

Donald Trump made false claims of voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election, and continued to deny the results of the election as of June 2024. He warned that officials who denied the legitimacy of the 2020 presidential election could attempt to obstruct the voting process or refuse to certify the results of the 2024 election. In the run-up to the 2024 election, the Republican Party made false claims of widespread “noncitizen voting” by immigrants in an attempt to delegitimize the election if Trump lost. Trump has been noted for trying to delay his impeachment until after the November election
